NEW TERMINAL AT SATU MARE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT 95% COMPLETED

NEW TERMINAL AT SATU MARE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT 95% COMPLETED

The construction work on the new terminal at Satu Mare International Airport is 95% complete, with construction teams performing the final finishing operations before the scheduled opening later this year.

The project involved multiple stages and components, including:

  • Construction of a new departures terminal: This will serve both Schengen and non-Schengen flights, providing modern facilities and ample space for passengers.
  • Modernization of the existing terminal: Transforming it into an Arrivals Terminal for both Schengen and non-Schengen flights, thus improving passenger flow and operational efficiency.
  • Expansion of the aircraft parking apron: Creating additional parking spaces to accommodate a larger number of aircraft.
  • Construction of a new fire station: This will provide a rapid and efficient response in emergencies, enhancing airport safety.
  • Upgrading the runway lighting system: Adjusting it to comply with EU Regulation 139/2014, thereby ensuring safety and adherence to European standards.
  • Installation of an automated baggage handling system: This system will facilitate the quick and efficient processing of baggage, reducing passenger wait times.
  • Security enhancements: Implementing advanced video surveillance technologies, AI-based video analysis, facial recognition, and access control. Additionally, fire detection, public address and voice alarm systems, passenger information systems, automated border control, and robust voice-data communication infrastructure will all contribute to increased safety and operational efficiency.

These substantial improvements will transform Satu Mare International Airport into a modern and efficient hub, capable of handling an increased flow of passengers and providing high-quality services aligned with international standards.

The execution contract, worth 311.85 million lei, was signed in February 2023. The consortium responsible for the work consists of Bog’Art, as the leader, alongside UTI Construction and Facility Management, and Drumuri Bihor.
